Dental Anxiety Management
Are you in desperate need of dental care, but too afraid to go to the dentist?
Relax! You are not alone. Fear of dentistry is probably more common than you may have realized. A study on dental phobia has concluded that ‘one adult in three has moderate to severe fear of dental procedures.
Our team fully understands how difficult it can be taking the first steps in tackling dental fears and phobias. We however, are committed to help you achieve your goals of overcoming fears and being able to have any treatment that you desire so that you are able to eat, and smile with confidence. We, therefore try to provide extra care and attention to every single patient who visits us to discuss how their fears can be overcome. We always look forward to working hard to prove to you that we are worthy of your trust. You can also read testimonials written by people who were once in your shoes- and made that simple call which changed their lives for good.
The First Visit- Planning your dental care
The initial consultation appointment is an opportunity to get acquainted with our dental team and the clinic atmosphere. You can discuss how you feel, what your goals are, and what the barriers were which prevented you having dental treatment in the past. Once we know exactly what dental treatment you require, and you know about all of the anxiety management options available for you to choose from, we will make the entire process of having dental treatment more simple than you probably thought possible. Your appointments and treatment will always be paced to suit just you!
Conscious Sedation
Conscious sedation is the technique/protocol used to reduce anxiety during dental procedures. The technique uses specific medications to relax the mind. The patient remains conscious and responds to all verbal commands.
We normally use 2 types of sedation:
ORAL SEDATION
With oral sedation, the sedative is taken either in liquid or tablet form. It is normally taken an hour before the surgery to reduce anxiety. Some people also find it beneficial to take a tablet the night before their appointment to help them sleep.
INTRAVENOUS SEDATION
Intravenous (IV) sedation is a reliable and effective means of producing more profound sedation for longer or more difficult dental procedures. It is the preferred method for children.
